The City of Riviera Beach and the Riviera Beach CRA have partnered together to bring the third Thursday of the month food truck series for three months to the Riviera Beach Marina Village’s Spanish Court. Thursday Tastes of Riviera Beach starts on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Come out and join us for great food, live entertainment, fun for families, and so much more!

Chairperson Shirley Lanier said in the CRA meeting on August 26, 2021, “I am very glad we are at the point of activating that site. That even though, we are looking forward to economic development there, having it activated will give us some opportunity for revenue and also for local businesses that have food trucks in the Riviera Beach area.”

The last job fair the event had close to thirty employers looking to hire for multiple positions at their companies. Anthony Robinson from the Arc of the Palm Beaches stated, “We are seeking people who care about the community and the people around them and care about themselves. We are looking for people that have a passion for people.” CareerSource of Palm Beach County will have opportunities for job seekers to receive education on best practices for job interviews and also resume review services.

Have you been looking to get involved in cleaning up the beaches and make a difference in Riviera Beach? September 18, 2021 is International Coastal Cleanup (ICC), which is the world’s largest volunteer effort to clean up the marine environment. Every year, volunteers from over 100 countries descend on local beaches, rivers, lakes, and canals to show their commitment to cleaner waterways. The Ocean Conservancy, the world’s largest organization focusing exclusively on the health of the marine environment, has sponsored this annual event for the past 36 years. The Riviera Beach CRA and Riviera Beach CDC invite you to come out to Ocean Walk to clean up the Singer Island Beach area. Registration opens at 7:30am and the clean-up starts promptly at 8am. The event lasts until 11:30am. This is a great opportunity to get outside, help the community, and even get some community service hours, in a socially distanced, safe manner.

Riviera Beach’s Redevelopment is Booming: Neighborhood RECLAIM Ribbon Cutting

RIVIERA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Riviera Beach Community Development Corporation, City of Riviera Beach, Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, Community Partners of South Florida, The Reentry Center, and Urban Farmers, Inc. joined together with their honored guests to welcome Ms. Shakeela Lowery as a first-time homebuyer in Riviera Beach. This house was renovated completely to make it a comfortable and beautiful place for her family to live in for years to come.

The photo above is what the house looked like before renovations. They took the 3 bedroom and 2 ½ bathroom house and added on a garage, full bath, and updated the house which brought up the value of the property. This is the first rehabilitation project for the Neighborhood RECLAIM program. The tour was held on August 8, 2019 and was attended by officials from the Florida Department of Corrections, U.S. Department of Justice, Palm Beach County Department of Public Safety, the City of Riviera Beach Reentry Program, Riviera Beach CDC and CRA, and Urban Farmers. At this convening, officials described the unique program’s purpose, goals and initial action plan. This community reintegration led by the CDC, is a pioneering program for the City of Riviera Beach .

“Homeownership is one of the first cornerstones in building generational wealth and stabilizing a community. I can assure you that the elected officials are aware of the challenge that we have in our community of moving more to owner-occupied dwellings. That is a commitment on the City and CRA side that we will do everything in our power to welcome residents and homeowners to our community. It will take all of us working together collaboratively. I am confident that we will see the redevelopment of our community with all of us together,” said Mr. Jonathan E. Evans, MPA, MBA, ICMA-CM, City Manager/Executive Director of CRA.

Singer Island Community Garden Phase I Ribbon Cutting and Dedication Ceremony

RIVIERA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Riviera Beach Community Development Corporation, City of Riviera Beach, Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, and Singer Island Community Garden Steering Committee celebrated the Phase I completion of the Singer Island Community Garden. The garden is located on the southeast corner of E. Blue Heron Boulevard and Lake Drive in Singer Island, FL. The event took place on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 4pm with light refreshments that followed the event. The garden is another green space to add to the Riviera Beach’s redevelopment and beautification.

The garden mission is to improve the economic, physical, mental, and social health of our community through community gardening. We strive to broaden knowledge of our food system, promote organic gardening, and to increase consumption of organic, fresh, fruits, and vegetables. We serve as a community gathering place, horticultural resource, and a source of pride and inspiration.

Redeveloping the Neighborhood with Riviera Beach’s First Solar Home

The Riviera Beach Community Development Corporation will be using a Mesocore A 1000 house for this project. This model offers a great open concept home design with 2 full baths and 3 bedrooms.

In breaking ground on the first solar home, we are opening a new chapter in that history of progress of technology. Mesocore CEO Joe Esposito spoke on the groundbreaking; “We are very excited to be working with a local agency that shares our desire to provide quality housing and are looking forward to the success of this collaboration.”

Mesocore Solar Homes is located in Riviera Beach and manufactures prefabricated homes ranging in size from 150 square feet up to 1,100 square feet. The home being delivered to this site has been primarily built offsite with all finished plumbing and electric. The home will have an integrated solar system and battery back up as well as a rain collecting cistern. Tari Bolden, from Truist Bank, said, “It was amazing to witness this historic moment; Our first solar house in the great city of Riviera Beach.” This will be the first of many new solar homes in Riviera Beach through the Neighborhood Reclaim program. We are excited for the redevelopment of this great city.

Job Fair Spotlights Demand for Health and Human Services Career Positions

There were close to thirty employers at the job fair looking to hire for multiple positions in the human services field. One of the employers was the Arc of Palm Beach County where Chief Development and Human Resources officer Anthony Robinson was looking to fill up to nine positions. Robinson stated, “We are seeing people who care about the community and the people around them and care about themselves. We are looking for people that have passion for people.”

These positions are in high demand to be filled due to people needing services right now. For example, community services departments have had huge increases for people requesting utility and rent assistance. People are turning to nonprofit services for help after the pandemic. KOP Mentoring Network kicked off Camp Quest ‘21

The 18 campers spent the day in orientation.

The camp is sponsored by the Palm Beach County Youth Services Department, City of Delray Beach, Delray Beach Police Department, Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency, Riviera Beach Community Development Corporation, Friends of Riviera Beach, Riviera Beach Parks and Recreation Department, Inner City Youth Golfers and Amazon Hub Delray.

Yesterday, the explorers of Camp Quest ‘21 met with the Riviera Beach police department. They talked to the beach patrol officer, a community officer, and the police chief to name a few. They had a great time exploring the cars, asking questions, and learning all about the police force.

RIVIERA BEACH, FLORIDA – Riviera Beach Created a Free Night of Jazz on the Gulfstream Terrace of the Marina Village Event Center for the Community

The City of Riviera Beach and Riviera Beach CRA partnered together to bring to the community a free jazz event called “Jazz Salon” on June 11, 2021 from 6pm-8pm at the Riviera Beach Marina Village Event Center Gulfstream Terrace. This event offered a live jazz musician, Victoria Cardona, a free drink from DAS Craft Beer and Pizza, and paella from Taste and See CP with Master Chef Chris Paul.

The weather was beautiful during the event with a wonderful breeze on the terrace. Ms. Cardona set the stage for an enjoyable night of jazz with showing us how she sets up her beats and then adds her voice and guitar to the mix. We had about seventy-five residents for the event. We look forward to offering something like this again soon as the people that attended loved the event.
